Wow! Thank you to the nearly 600 Chamber members and business leaders who attended our 20th Annual Thanksgiving Community Luncheon today! What a great way to kick off the Holiday season and celebrate what we are thankful for in our community.
Many thanks to Tioga State Bank, our title sponsor!
Bravo to the Binghamton Philharmonic for the beautiful background music and playing of the National Anthem!
Congratulations to our Community Advocate of the Year: OurSpace Park and our Corporate Citizen of the Year: Delta Engineers, Architects, & Land Surveyors, DPC.
In addition to our awards, the Chamber presented a donation of $2,000 to The Salvation Army of Binghamton, NY as a result of the Chamber’s Winetasting Event in October.
Jordan Patch, owner of Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, concluded the event as our keynote speaker, with a special guest appearance from Jax.
Rec Park Friends & Family - I wanted to update the possible attendees of the 21st Annual Rec Park Music Fest tomorrow on the status of the event. It is with reluctance that I cancel the event and will not plan another rain date. I know this is a disappointment to all of the prospective attendees and the participants that are involved in this year’s fest. It is obviously discouraging to me as well and a great deal of thought has gone into the decision. Please find the following information on why I have decided to cancel the event and not have a rain date or an indoor event tomorrow: (1) All weather reports are showing between a 40 – 60% chance of showers. In addition, most are showing that it will rain most of the night tonight and there will be periodic showers tomorrow. Therefore it will be damp and cooler regardless if it rains or not during the event. This will have a major impact on the attendance, the equipment, and the vendors. (2) I have decided not to have another rain date as we are running out of warmer weekends and it is very difficult to get the dozens of participants’ schedules to align on another specific date. We will be back again in August of next year! (3) I had discussed moving the event indoors but have decided not to for the following reasons: a. The mission of the event is to “Showcase Regional Musical Talent in Historic Recreation Park”. Moving it does not accomplish that. b. The Parks Department (Taxpayers) provide financial support for the event but the funds obviously have to be distributed for an event and services rendered in the park. Moving the event would require all of the participants to be involved on a volunteer basis and although the majority would do it, I am not comfortable asking them to work for free. Some have asked about putting up large tents for the event but although the funding is very much appreciated it is just enough to cover the performer and sound company expenses. Also, It would be very difficult to find an unobstructed area near the band shell that could accommodate the size group the typically attends this event. There are trees, roots, play ground equipment, benches, etc that would prevent the ability to properly install a tent in this area. Plus the Rod Serling Band Stand is a major part of this event. c. We have looked and identified an indoor location but I have found that although the indoor events (bars) are fun, we lose many of the attendees that want to spend an afternoon in the park, want to be outdoors, and/or planned to bring their families. d. My goal as the producer of the event is to uphold the mission while assuring that we attract as many interested parties to the park as specified in the funding arrangement. e. Finally, but most important! Your safety and enjoyment are the most important and I think we all agree that a wet, cold, rainy, stormy October day is not going to make most of you happy! (4) Finally, I want to thank all of you for your interest, patience, and support over the last several months and all of these years as well! There are so many people that help to make this event successful and once the dust settles I will send out information thanking them for all of their generous support! It is great to be part of this community and to have the honor of providing and event like this for you!
It is amazing that the only two rainy weekends this year have been the original date in August and this weekend’s raindate! I think we can end this drought by having the fest every weekend! The “Weather Gods” got us this year but the score is 20 – 1 over the past two decades and we will come back strong next year! Please let me know if you have any questions and please stay dry, stay warm, and stay safe!
Please help spread the word and share this!
